Craigslist Rental Scams Continue in Great Falls MT

Tags: , , ,

Craigslist continues to be a huge source of scams for rentals in the Great Falls MT area.

We want to warn you to be extremely cautious when browsing rentals on Craigslist. Scammers are stealing pictures, and descriptions from various websites and posting fake ads on Craigslist trying to lure potential renters to send them deposit monies and personal and financial information. Sometimes these scammers even go so far as to find out the property owners name and utilize it in a yahoo or gmail address. They may even attempt to speak with you on the phone.  Often they will have some story as to why you should ignore the signs in the yard and deal directly with them.  We have even heard of them telling potential renters to peak in the windows and try the doors.  In Montana, where most residents are also Gun owners, this is a recipe for disaster.

To be safe, we recommend that you utilize the actual websites of Property Managers so that you know that you are dealing with the person(s) that are responsible for the property. You should always be able to meet the property owner or manager at the residence so you know you are dealing with the proper person.

For the safety of our Property Managers, we will always require that you complete our Rental Application and bring in an ID to our office before showing you a property.

We will never ask you to wire us money. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it most likely is!
